There is a lot that I like about this game. It came out at a good time for me as I was listening to the final book in Ian W Toll’s books about the Pacific War. However, there is a lot that needs to be improved (being able to plan actions for different deck status if you have the switch prepped not withstanding). There is also a lot of “down” time with some of the gameplay feeling very on the rails, or repetitive. The attack system with the cards is a nice development, and is a nice way to reward players for scouting contact further. I recommend this game for people who are have an interest in World War 2, with a particular interest in the carrier actions in the Pacific.
While a very fun game and quite simple but interesting mechanics, the game has one major flaw in that you cannot restart a mission if you finished it and clicked ‘continue’. This makes it quite difficult to get the achievements (I mean they are achievements for a reason but still…) and puts quite some pressure on the player to complete it perfectly the first time which, for me, takes away a lot of the fun that’s to be had.
