This game is going for that 8-bit aesthetic and retro gameplay, and that comes with sluggish movement which is clearly intentional. As with many modern tributes to the 1980s, it insists on playing with with black borders to emulate that small screen experience. The game settings include the scanlines, gamepad support, skins for borders, and v-sync (I used 360 controller, but you have to enable it in the settings). The game comes with 2 difficulty choices and survival mode that is unlocked after completing the game. It’s nice to see some steam achievements because many devs do not include them to keep the game faithful. It takes about 1 hour to finish the story on the “normal” mode, not as hard as you would expect. However, the C64 difficulty has faster projectiles, less health and more enemies (more fun in my opinion). It’s not the best retro game out there, there is nothing special about it, but I don’t have any issues with how it works. It’s alright for a few hours if you want a “retro” challenge.
