Extremely shallow but fun for an afternoon. Reminiscent of old-school Kongregate or Newgrounds flash games with continuous upgrades and resource collection, but with actual graphics and visual effects compared to other Survivors-type games.
The aircraft is pretty boring to control and has a rather drab armament selection, but the enjoyability of the game increases tenfold as soon as you unlock the mech – it turns into pure mecha ARPG power fantasy where a single swing of your sword arm utterly erases half the bugpeople on your screen in a flash of gore. Cool giant robit, nice looking mech animations, overall decent fun for a couple hours until you exhaust all there is to unlock and the only thing to look forward to is recursively buying upgrades. But anyone that doesn’t derive sheer glee from seeing a beam saber that covers the screen bisect a thousand-strong bug horde is severely lacking in testosterone.
Still gets a thumbs up because mechs and planetary genocide are a match made in heaven. Also helps to have a good PC because this game is a memory porker – holy christ sometimes it’s like I’m playing diablo 2 on the family PC again every time I left click. You know what you are getting. There is no story or real reason you are flying around you just go forth and slaughter bugs or they slaughter you. It would be nice if you could change levels outside of resetting your entire game but it is what it is.
