Good game in which you have to manage everything possible in the middle of the air. Every single crew member has their tasks and position. Whether as a pilot, gunner, engineer, navigator or radio operator. All skills are required. Aim targets, make repairs, refill ammunition and much more. In the middle of the fight. Can go wild when it feels like everything is failing. Once you have completed a mission such as destroying targets, you return to base. Crew members are recruited there in case someone dies, equipped with clothing, the aircraft can be upgraded, for example with better armor. Individuals who complete the mission alive receive experience points and level up. New skills are added, such as a shooter learning focus, which can be activated in the middle of a fight and expires over time.
So maybe it’s a bit much at the beginning, but luckily that goes away. I don’t have the patience to play it all the way through 🙂 I REALLY like this game, I bought it once for the Switch, and again on PC for my Steam Deck. So why don’t I recommend it? Because this game falls prey to the same thing that makes so many amazing strategy/management games (like XCOM) so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ frustrating; it pairs incredibly fun gameplay with an absolutely insanely punishing difficulty level that feels downright unfair.
You work up your crew, get them leveled up, your gear, and your plane to a decent level where you *finally* feel like you might not get everyone killed, and then the game throws a level at you that is absolutely souls-like in it’s difficulty, and everyone gets killed and your plane is broken and you have to start all over, leveling up another crew, plane, gear, etc.
The problem is that the entire game loop is on a downward slope. If you don’t ace *every* mission, your chances of finishing this game drops dramatically. The game keeps getting harder while you have less and less resources and more and more inexperienced crew (as the old ones die) so instead of improving, you’re fighting to even compete against the difficulty of each ongoing mission as they get harder.
