100%’d the game in 5.5 hours. No replay value, not that that’s an issue, but just informing you if that’s what you want. It’s straightforward in its presentation. If you like what you see in the videos, you’ll like the game. If you enjoyed the Room series, you’ll like the game. Sound design was all right, visual presentation was pretty but plagued with some assets that were either way too low poly, way too low resolution, or both. They stuck out like sore thumbs, so it isn’t going to be perfect, but it does what it says it’ll do: give you puzzle dioramas to solve. Lots of machinery and mechanisms to play with and troubleshoot, and they are satisfying designs to witness moving around.
It wasn’t very difficult, save for a couple parts for me, but I think I just missed something obvious during those times. You aren’t going to be in for anything super challenging or frustrating, it’s more leisurely and light thinking. Only thing I’d say is that it probably should be around $10. $15 is too much, just a feeling. I loved Doors: Paradox! Just the type of casual puzzle game that is fun, colourful and taxes your mind. It does not have the depth of story that House of Da Vinci has; or the complex puzzles of The Room series or the cuteness of Cats in Time. So people looking for hard puzzles, this is NOT for you as it only has moderate difficulty. I delight in these sort of games where you push buttons, pull levers, open cupboards to see what happens. It indulges the inquisitive child within you as you marvel at the mechanics and physics of the puzzles. In chapter 3 there were some spectacular results from your hard work!
Doors: Paradox is just one 3D diorama after another whereby you need to open each door which is a portal to the next puzzle. A black cat is your guide. There are 2 gems and a scroll to find on each diorama. Each diorama has an distinctive theme and towards the end of chapter 3, an element of horror creeps in. There have been complaints that there is no story. The scrolls are like little vignettes about the human race and the temptation that power always has over us. Power can result in chaos or order and these opposites have always been in conflict. With power comes consequences good or bad and we all have to make a decision sometime in our lives which one to choose. The scrolls were constantly warning us that you can’t go back from an action because effects and consequences always flows from it. Maybe it was too deep for some to understand because it did resonate with me. Price is another issue, but I bought mine during the winter sales. Most people solve it in 5-10 hours. Being a slowcoach it was good value for money for me. I never got bored as you can let your imagination soar!
