I really love it when developers introduce new aspects I haven’t seen in videogames before. Even if an aspect or the game isn’t that good its way much worth to me than an average game, they are memorable for me way much more. After basically copying the Borderlands back then with Dead Island but adding their own twist to it they went with another gameplay system and parkour in this one The huge difference between this game and many other ones out there is the high focus on parkour, with a lot of different animations and that in first person.

I feel like the movement is great, although it only starts to shine later when you have levelled in some areas. Although I don’t particularly like the system that much, it’s a good concept but the balance is off, making me have high amounts of xp in combat, but barely any in parkour as this gives way much less despite having the same length of a skill tree. This made me end up in solely running around on purpose doing special types of parkour climbing animations that give more xp.

Its not that much focused on skill and especially the story missions mostly don’t care about parkour that much but its still used a lot. There are a lot of different animations and things to climb. Combat is fun a swell, with some cool moves here and there, weapons are in the game too and can be useful to take out running zombies or humans, but as a drawback they will spawn additional enemies.

There is some post game content like prison runs or quarantine zones that act as small dungeons, including a legend levelling system that unlocks if you have finished all skill trees to add some additional gameplay time, but I didn’t have the need to play more, the main game has a good length to begin with. You can also play the game in coop, although I felt it was ultimately more my style to play it alone, having the option is always great as there aren’t enough coop games out there!

Generally, they improved a lot of aspects from Dead Island and scrapped those that didn’t seem interesting, like having different character but that actually end up playing almost the same. The core gameplay experience in my opinion was great. Although I had once or twice bugs and had to restart in order to progress. Also, there is no reliable quick travel system and it also includes repeatable quests again, which I absolutely despise. Its not that memorable I would say. Story wises its really cliché, its pretty much what you expect, although there are a few nice moments in the cutscenes here and there and some fun side quests.
