Upgrades will only expand your basic abilities further. All you need to do is walk the path and kill all titans. The overworld offers nothing but walking, which can be annoying. Sometimes you end up dying in a fight and you have to walk from the Checkpoint that is a little further away.

If you died like the 10th time at the same boss and you have to walk the same path the 10th times, I presume i dont have to tell you how annoying that could be. I tell you this first because this is what felt bad. It is one of two things i dont like about the game. The second being the worst game decison of all time. So Imagine when walking the 10th time all the way to the titan that you seemingly cant kill. And you can roll which allows you to not only dodge but to move quicker. After rolling you end up in a sprint.
