About Journey to the Sun:
Needs a lot of work…Im really trying hard to enjoy this game but all the characters are SUPER weak and incredibly slow while even the day 1 enemies are too strong and too fast and most upgrades are trash..you get very little help from upgrades and most upgrades while increasing one thing makes you suffer in another area. for example, you get damage upgrades that reduce your speed, very irritating..there are no health pick ups anywhere, there are no I-frames so enemies can hit you multiple times in a row and they do MAJOR damage from day one.
its very frustrating because you cant really get anywhere..you need tons of materials for turrets but at the same time you need to buy health and damage upgrades but you also have to buy seeds and animals…the game has great potential but it is VERY unbalanced right now..hopefully there will be some updates soon to fix all this.
While I give it a thumbs up I just wish I had a “meh” option. As a lot of other reviewers said this should be in early access but in reality it feels more this was a test bed for path-finding and the fighting mechanics for the much better game, Sun Haven. If that was the case this makes much more sense. You would only have to throw in a few progression mechanics and be able to put it out.
Problem is these kinds of games really need some play testing. It has no banish, re-roll or even skip tokens so your forced to get an ability or stat every level. Your movement is very slow and by the 10 night your as good as dead if you didn’t start stacking movement speed. Even Sun Haven has the jump dodge. Weapon damage is all over the place and unless you play a few dozen runs you have no idea what weapons are even worth getting. Especially since there are no damage statistics.
That said its just the MECHANICS that are awful. The graphics and even the simple plot are well done. Also its just $5. It just needs a good few months of balance testing but considering how Sun Haven, again sunk WAY to many hours into that, is the main product of the studio this is just a side dish.
