Mechanically very shallow. I was fortunate to never work out how to make any of the buildings that make the camp self sufficient operate, which meant that I had a finite time to finish the game before running out of money which added some much needed intensity but otherwise its a case of training a soldier for a mission by assigning them to a building, waiting for them to get to the desired level, then send them on a mission. Repeat. No depth beyond that. It’s surprising that this game hasn’t already been made as military and management are two themes that both make sense together and are popular, yet this game fails to make the them synergise.
It can be a fun game but the entire combat system turns me off. The most prolific way to make an income is through combat quests, I dont like these and how its critical to do them to survive…i feel like i spend more time on the combat map than actually managing a military camp. This part of the game ruins it for me and I’ll probably never play again.
I am under constant pressure to advance and conquer territories. Either my funds are in the red or the enemy is pressuring me. So I have to keep fighting, risk the injury or death of my soldiers, send less trained soldiers on the next mission to get that barly needed money, and take more losses. Expand the base to get the types of troops I need for the next missions, only gives more pressure and less time to train troops poperly.
Then I need the food, gas and medical suplies and the more troops I need to progess, the more suplies the base demands. And if the enemy cuts a vital territory that provides a needed ressource, things are getting even more hard. I can’t even defend what I conquered and the enemy just can take what he wants without me having a chance to defend.
