While the typical management game concerns of construction, purchasing items, hiring staff and keeping morale up are all present, Overcrowd is particularly interested in the people using your station, with an emphasis on managing the flow of the crowd there are elements of Overcrowd that give the game a sense of frenetic energy … but there’s always the option to press pause and adjust without the high stakes of time … Overcrowd is a unique meditation on a space that is ubiquitous for many people. Very fun game, but still very buggy. People getting stuck on tracks, reputation plummeting because a train that should be in the station never arrived and holds the station hostage, the type of bugs that feel like they should have been discovered in beta if I’m seeing them. Tutorial could also use some love, a lot of necessary info is not explained. I had to consult guides to understand key things that could not be done, that are not obvious. Overcrowd is not only a management and sim game, it’s also very much a strategy game. Each station is unique and has to be built in a different way to accomplish your goals. You have free range to do that however you want, which is lots of fun when it works out, but can seem frustrating if it fails.
