Sweet nostalgia. I first played this on a demo disc from a magazine when I was about 12. In the demo version, the bot named Coffey is your team-mate rather than your enemy, and when I realised the change had taken place in the full game… well – I knew betrayal. I spent countless, countless hours during my teens destroying Coffey and his team of red scumbags (Blue FTW).
The game itself is like a Counter Strike clone, a very low budget one. It’s all match based, no campaign as such. Bots are dumb, but their hilarious one liners, their stupidity, the exploding and disintegrating vehicles, the ramps – it’s just really entertaining to play, even against the bots. I also think the art direction is unironically very cool. There’s little things that give it a boost too, like how the sniper rifle has a charge shot, and some basic (ultra basic) squad commands. I originally bought this from an EB Games bargain bin for 88 cents. Had no clue I’d dump close to 300 hours into it, let alone get into running a server with a few people for half a decade. MoFo was a massive part of my teen years, never in a million years thought I’d see it pop up on Steam.
