I am a fan of deck building rogue-likes and Astrea is the first game I’ve played in a while that felt refreshing to play. Having dice instead of cards may seem at first that you will have less control and are more susceptible to RNG. But for me I feel it gives you a lot more variability, especially in terms of playstyle. You can pick dice according to how risky you want to be. And even then, there are plenty of opportunities to reroll, craft your dice, destroy your dice, ect. I especially like crafting the hell out of risky dice and then duplicating them, suddenly the risky dice don’t seem so risky ;). So the game almost never feels like it is punishing you out of the blue, because it is easily customizable according to the kind of experience you are looking for.
Charming and beautiful game but in my opinion way way too easy. I play a lot of deck-building games so I’m suffering a bit from knowing the basic go-to strategy (keep deck slim and cohesive) but I’m coasting so hard here that even creating a successful engine doesn’t feel particularly clever or rewarding. I’m marking this game as “recommended” because the die deck building mechanic is wonderfully unique and intuitive but with the caveat that if you’re looking for a challenge look elsewhere Fun combination of roguelike deckbuilder and dice, the dice make things less predictable which absolutely can screw you over, but if you get a good build going you do get some very fun combinations going. Sentinels seem bit overtuned compared to other rewards, at least on lower end difficulty as guaranteed dice is just generally more reliable than 1 modified side of 1 die, that being said, the game itself is very fun for those who enjoy roguelike deckbuilder genre.
