I will rant about this game(mostly because of hype by others), but first things first. I highly recommend this game, definitely worth owning and playing, a few times. People who keep saying this title is entirely different from other Resident Evil titles are both right and wrong. It’s more atmospheric than other titles, but it still has ridiculous giant blob monsters that have orange pustules that need shooting. Just because there is less convoluted story and monsters, doesn’t mean it’s THAT different, just less of those things.

A story about people that didn’t want to hurt anyone, but had to because a virus or mold made them, that’s COMPLETELY different! The game clearly states that there is a SMALL window to cure people, but Mia and this poor family has this mold-virus for three stinkin’ years, yet only Mia and Zoe are curable and everyone else dies from the cure? There is a lot of running and hiding in this game, THAT’S what is different. It’s not a bad story, but it’s not the game changer a lot of people say it is. In my opinion, the RE series was never really scary, but intense(there is a difference). Just my opinion, but I can see why others deem it kinda scary.

That’s why the replay value of the story is not that enticing to me. The same spooky cut scenes over and over with very little action just isn’t my thing. I prefer the zombie shooting action, which IS all other titles. The more I look it up, the more I find out many fans keep re-playing the 4-6 games. Why? IMO, it’s because of choice. The player has the choice to run or fight(a variety of baddies with a variety of weapons). People keep saying the stories of those games are messy, but this title no is no different, just less of a mess. Trying to make the players feel sympathetic towards the family that held your girlfriend hostage was a mistake.

That’s…unfortunately dumb. Let me be clear: This game IS great, dripping with atmosphere, and the bonus mini games are fun. I really THOUGHT that the game was doing something almost unprecedented is the RE universe. When I first started playing this one, I dropped my jaw because I thought the story was heading to the idea that a sadistic mass murdering Texas chainsaw massacre-like family that ended up with a mold(it’s not a virus, it’s a mold that spreads) that made them immortal monsters! WOW! That’s not different from other RE titles at all! All I’m saying(that’s not fair, this is a rant). All my boo-whoing ranting brain is saying is that, it’s not THAT different from other titles.
