Shrot is a short, retro-style real-time strategy game that takes place on a sandy world with tractors, horses, and techno music. Inspired by Paranoia, the third real-time strategy game ever developed and a 1995 Czech remake of Dune 2, the game takes its cues from that title. Shrot modifies the model by incorporating a variety of contemporary features and focusing on action-packed, quicker gameplay. Hops grow wild on the recently discovered virgin planet Scheeza, and traders from throughout the galaxy are drawn to the world by its perfume. Driven by insatiable power-hunger, three rival clans want to take control of this celestial paradise, engulfing the planet in a state of perpetual conflict. However, the planet conceals even another secret from the clans, hidden deep in space.

Upon finishing 3D Action HROT, a truly modern masterpiece, I was pleased to see the developer was working on a new project. I’m not sure if I count as a veteran, but I have fond memories of playing Dune on the Sega Genesis (I had a Sega Megadrive version at the time). The soundtrack is great on its own but also really fits the vibe of the game. Gameplay is simple yet draws you in as you get new structures / units to play around with each mission. Fast, instant, “back to the roots” real-time strategy, with modern controls, simple but polished 3D graphics and plenty of action After completing a true modern masterpiece 3D Action HROT I was quite happy to see the developer working on a new product.

• Randomly generated battles that never play out the same way.
• Base building, hops mining, and large-scale battles lasting hours with hundreds of units and thousands of casualties.
