the decision to engage in direct combat can cost you a life The game is relatively short, but three playable characters give it some increased replayability. There’s also Cards to collect throughout the levels that unlock Gallery items, so if you’re a completionist you have something to go for. The levels designs are varied, with unique themes and the occasional puzzle-solving thrown in so the game doesn’t dissolve into “run from left to right as fast as you can,” and the levels you progress through vary depending on the character you have selected. There’s also a variety of challenging bosses. Some levels overlap between characters.

However, I think you’d be missing out in doing this; I personally enjoyed learning about the characters and the game world. I wish some of the other characters were playable. It feels like a few were planned to be playable, but weren’t fully implemented. It would’ve been awesome to play through their stories as well. I also find the game comfortably challenging. I played through on Normal and didn’t encounter roadblocks until the fourth stage or so. Some boss fights are easy losses if you let yourself get caught by certain attacks, and some of the later levels throw so many enemies at you that it’s tough to get through without a couple deaths. And my first attempt on the final boss fight… I swear I died at least 20 times, and I was playing on Normal.
