Neon Horizon: Eclipse is a first-person action platformer in which you have to go on an exciting adventure across eight different islands. Each island has its own unique traps and obstacles. Resist hordes of mutants, solve puzzles, go through mazes and overcome traps. Get glory points for destroying enemies and passing obstacles, collect as many as possible to take a leading position. Loot chests, spin the wheel of fortune to get extra fame points, ammunition and special abilities. The only real goal you can aim for is points that earn you stars at the end. You earn points by killing zombies and lose them by dying. Your only weapon is a machine gun that fires an unlimited amount of single rounds.

Be prepared for a lot of button mashing. Exploding rounds and shotgun ammo are the other two forms of ammunition, but you won’t be seeing much of those because it’s hard to get them. It looks like the gun’s precision is always 100 percent; you’ll hit an enemy in the distance if you aim at it. Stages are linear and made out of mostly empty islands that may contain zombies to fight, traps that demand skillful platforming, or a chest that can be opened. Despite the addition of a few new things here and there, the stages appear to be too similar.

The overall feel of the game is carnival or funfair, every stage’s design is vibrant and colorful, almost cartoonish. The same may be said for zombies. Zombies are easy to kill. Most are dangerous only when they get close. They approach you in a straight line and growl to let you know they’re there. This sound is very disturbing and does not blend well with the rest of the colorful scene. The strategy is always the same; walk forward until you hear a growl, run a few meters back, turn around and start shooting at them. Because zombies do not react to your bullets, you just need to keep shooting until they fall to the ground.  Large, obnoxious shrubs make this a little more difficult. Stages are filled with them. Because you have no idea where the growl is coming from, a zombie might pop out of any bush around you.
