The transition away from meta-progression made the gameplay itself much more stale and less diverse, there’s a correct way to do things now and it makes this game have almost zero replayability. And with the gameplay suffering, the CYOA mechanics weren’t improved at all, they’ve actually become slightly worst. Most options are still just “Optional harder fight” or “Optional skill check for small benefit” and no longer do the events/fights you take part in change depending on how well you are doing, further harming the replayability.
