You know how people talk about difficulty spikes as a bad thing? Generally they are – but Rogue Tower has them and I’ve learned to appreciate them. I’ve even come to anticipate them and I still often under prepare for them. That’s a reflection on me overestimating my own math & spatial awareness skills. This is a tower defense game that punishes you for being lazy. There’s certainly a place for that in the genre and I believe this is absolutely worth your time and money. Cannot play this as a quick casual hop on/off game once you are leveled up enough to “win” a full game.
There is no save mid game, and though I can’t say for sure because didn’t time it, it felt like it took an hour to win a game/match. You lvl up towers & perma-boosts through exp collected from multiple playthroughs. Despite other reviews, winning did not feel based on “luck” at least for the first difficulty level. Playtime to level up enough to beat the first 1 difficulty level was ~7hrs for me playing it very casually. The towers are not unique and unlocks are boring/go-unnoticed. enjoyable enough tower defense with some concepts that are at least new to me for the genre. as the Rogue part of the title might imply, RNG is going to heavily factor how good or bad your runs go. Which is often more annoying when you don’t get good cards/paths then rewarding when you do.
